Alright, friends it is here! The legendary Nordstrom Anniversary sale! The sale of all sales in the fashion world! It’s Christmas in July and we are here for it!
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a great time to purchase items that are not normally on sale (think the yummy Barefoot Dreams cardigan) and items that are classic investment pieces (like leather jacket or cashmere sweater). Most of the items in this sale are 35-50% (or more!) which also includes home decor, and exclusive beauty and make up collections. With Christmas just being five months away, I will sometimes rack up on gifts like Nordstrom’s super soft blankets. I mean, they are like butta and my favorite go to holiday gift.
If you are a cardholder, you can get early access to the sale starting today! Seven days before the general public and things sale out fast so you may want to join the club! Now, I am not a big credit card proponent, and when I did sign up way back when Nordstrom had the debit card so that’s what I went with and still have. Recently, Nordstrom change some things up and now they just off the credit card, but hopefully with my guidance below, you can spend your money wisely.
So to not get too overwhelmed or carried away with this Nordy Anniversary sale hoopla, I always make sure I get a game plan down before hopping online and adding to my cart. Just as I do with my clients, I go through my closet, see what “holes” I may have in my Fall wardrobe, what has served it’s purpose well for some seasons and now we need to part ways, and things that just don’t fit me right anymore so why hang on to it?
When I style, I like to have a base of classic pieces, and then gradually add more fun colors and patterns to elevate the simple look. If you plan it out right or maybe have a stylist friend like me (just saying;), you can really make the most of this sale and get the most bang for your buck.
So here are my picks by category. I do not own them yet (they are on their way) but I am familiar with the brands, the quality and value. Otherwise, I would not be recommending. Also, I only got things that were either gifts, some staples that I needed like bootcut jeans, replace my leopard pumps and black dress pants. These were “holes” in my closet or that needed to be replaced. I did splurge on one thing and that is a cashmere sweater. Happy early birthday or Merry Christmas to me?
I hope these picks will inspire you or be guideline on shopping smart during this sale.
I absolutely love this Barefoot Dreams cardigan. I got one last year for my 40th birthday and wear it all the time so I wanted to get it for a special someone for their birthday in the Fall. When you put this cardigan on, it’s like this big warm hug and you will not want to take it off. I wear it with a tank and leggings around the house and I have even packed it in my carry on for when it gets cold on long flights. This cardigan comes in charcoal, this pretty slate blue and pearl color. Originally it costs $116 and it is on sale for $76.90. So you are saving almost $40 for a gift that keeps on giving!
The other gift that keeps on giving is this beautiful throw that comes in all kinds of colors. I have gotten this for gifts and had it monogrammed to make it more personal. My girls have it too and never want to leave home without when we travel. While it’s not a huge deal, it’s still a great price for a really nice, soft and pretty blanket. Originally it is $39. 50 and now it is $25.90. I think this is such a good price for a gift or maybe even to treat yourself.
Now let’s get down to fashion. I love a good Moto jacket and for the price, I scooped this one up. I already have a classic tobacco color leather jacket which I think is a must have in everyone’s wardrobe. A leather or faux leather jacket can add just the right layer and style to any wardrobe. As mentioned, I assessed my wardrobe before the sale, and this kind of jacket and color was one I had been missing and needed to go with some other things I already owned. If the size works out, you will see me styling it with anything from dresses to jeans and a white tee.
Another good staple in one’s wardrobe is a good pair of dark rinse bootcut jeans, like these Kut from the Kloth. Although I do have a pair of bootcut jeans that I have had for many years now, the denim is pretty worn out and I was not liking the low rise on me anymore. I guess the older I get, the more high waist or mid rise I tend to like. So again for the price and I know that this brand, Kut, is a great quality, I proceeded to add it to my cart. Done! Now, let’s hope they fit.
Moving on to another staple is a good pair of black dress pants. Now, I know depending on one’s lifestyle, you may not need a pair of black dress pants. I tend to wear them a lot either when visiting clients, going out to dinner or even to church, especially during the colder months. So these Boss dress pants were a must have to add to my wardrobe. I know this brand very well as I have another pair of their pants in a different material and they will last you for many many years so they are worth every penny. These are hardly ever on sale so if you need a pair of good dress pants, I would add it to my cart!
As you all know I love a good animal print and my Sam Edelman leopard print pumps from anniversary sale many years ago are showing they have been well loved. Now, I can still wear them, but I will probably need a back up soon. So while these babies were on sale, I wanted to grab them. I also loved the new pattern and the heel is not as high as my other ones. Originally, these are $139.95 and they are on sale now for $89 and believe me when I say this, you will get a lot of mileage out of these. So this $89 will go a long way!
Now, for my splurge. I only do this during this particular sale (or ever really) if I already have my basic staples and I do. I already have my winter coat, my fall coat, a good handbag and I didn’t really need anymore boots because I really invested in some good quality ones years ago. So I treated myself to a nice cashmere sweater in a color that I don’t have in my fall/winter wardrobe rotation. I love the style of this too. It’s dressy yet relaxed and the back of it is a little longer to cover your rear if you like that kind of thing. I can see me wearing this with my white jeans going into early fall to wearing it with anything from my new dark rinse jeans, a black pencil skirt and my new black dress pants. So I will definitely make it worth my while.
Finally, the things I have on my wish list or that were immediately sold out the minute I even thought about adding it to my cart. So I will just be over here coveting those of you that snagged these and wishing you the very best.
- The Free people, oversize tunic sweater. I have this one in black and wore it out last year with my black Athleta Moto leggings and riding boots and then jeans too of course. So I wanted it in a color this time and well I guess the shopping Gods were not in favor of that this time. Maybe you can find your size in the link above.
- Here I go again with my animal print. I love a good long cardigan and this one had my name written all over it or so I thought. I had all kinds of ideas of how I was going to style it, where I would wear it. Oh well! Maybe you will have some luck and find it in your local store or in your size.
- Other than Athleta, I love Zella’s leggings. They are super soft and very flattering. I wanted this particular color. Thought it would be fun instead of my standard black and navy. Again, not meant to be. So here is the link in case you have some luck . This particular brand runs true to size so if you wear size 4, you would get a small.
- Now this last one was not in my cart but I did send this to some of my clients who were looking for a good trench coat. I love this one, especially the fact that it has a removable hood. It’s hard to find a nice trench like that. If I didn’t already have one, I would definitely scoop this one up. Originally it’s $169 and now it is $99. Huge, people! Hmmm…kind of thinking I should have gotten it now because mine doesn’t have a hood.
